Premium Matcha Chocolate Tasting Set — 9 Cultivars, all at 24% Matcha

A "matcha dictionary" you can eat.

This tasting set lets you compare nine different matcha cultivars, each captured in a single, ultra-rich piece of chocolate. Every piece contains roughly the same amount of matcha as a full bowl of whisked tea, with a matcha content of about 24%, the highest concentration in chocolate lineup. Nine pieces, nine cultivars, nine cups' worth of matcha in one box.

Why it's special

Japan is home to well over 100 tea cultivars, each with its own distinct character — yet most matcha sold today is a blend of several varieties, making it rare to taste any single cultivar on its own. This set recreates that rare cultivar-by-cultivar tasting experience in chocolate form, something only possible because d:matcha grows, processes, and sells its own tea from farm to product.

The nine cultivars in the box

  1. Yabukita: Japan's most widely planted cultivar (75% of national acreage), known for a crisp, refreshing astringency.

  2. Samidori: Kyoto born cultivar that defines Uji matcha, prized for its fine aroma and umami.

  3. Gokou: premium Kyoto cultivar, with bold umami, sweetness, and a distinctive milky aroma.

  4. Kanayamidori: gentle astringency paired with a unique aroma, somewhere between milky and grassy.

  5. Sayamakaori: high in catechins for a pronounced astringency.

  6. Tenmyou: Kyoto cultivar that notable for its vivid green color and rich, nori like shading aroma.

  7. Asanoka: Kagoshima cultivar with high amino acid content, delivering strong umami and a signature aroma that really stands out as matcha.

  8. Okumidori: Shizuoka cultivar with a vivid green color and a clean, mild, easy-drinking flavor.

  9. Asahi: premium Kyoto cultivar for matcha, often grown for tea competitions.

Made from single origin, first flush matcha

All the matcha used is grown by d:matcha on their own farms in Kyoto, using 100% first flush leaves, the spring harvest prized for its peak umami, at a grade normally reserved for tea ceremony use.
