Kanbayashi Shunsho - Ryo no Kage Matcha

The Kanbayashi Shunsho family is one of Uji’s most esteemed tea producers, carrying a legacy of more than fifteen generations dating back to the Eiroku era (around 1560). Today, the Kanbayashi Shunsho family remains the sole surviving lineage of Uji’s historic tea masters, upholding over 450 years of tradition. Their enduring commitment to craftsmanship and quality continues to define their celebrated approach to tea.

Kanbayashi Shunsho’s 11th-generation master was granted permission to present koicha to the Imperial Court. To commemorate the occasion, Grand Tea Master Gengensai of Konnichian bestowed the name Ryō no Kage upon this tea.
